Is ‘Free’ EPos Software really Free?

Published by admin on

‘Don’t look a gift horse in the month’ is an old popular saying. But for ‘free’ or ‘cheap’ epos software this may not be a route you want to go down.

Consider that a large amount of development hours and expertise has to go into producing any worth-while software solution, especially with the comprehensive features available in established epos packages.

Also consider the continuous development and regular software updates provided by established companies to enhance their product.

There are plenty of ‘cheap’ or ‘free’ Epos solutions on the internet but a business owner should consider whether the upfront cost should be the most important criteria when choosing what is a vital element of their business.

So what are the pros and cons of free software?

Pros: – Well it’s free. Why shouldn’t I try it?

Cons:

  • Some free software has no support whatsoever. Or support may be at a premium or high-cost phone number
  • If you don’t pay for something why expect a commitment to resolve bugs and to keep up to date with issues?
  • Free can mean a cut-down version of software where anything but a few features are unavailable until a premium price is paid

Choosing the wrong Epos solution can prove costly for your business if you cannot find someone to solve issues promptly.

The right solution should process sales quickly, maximise efficiency and save time and money as well as helping to manage your business for stock control and reporting.

You do get what you paid for !
